A living teaching from the Codex of the Red Sun:

This first discussion opens a space for reflection on one of the most profound teachings within Mexica wisdom: the relationship between Earth, Emotion, and Conscious Will. Through the figures of Coatlicue, Coyolxauhqui, and Huitzilopochtli, the codex offers guidance on how human beings can live in balance with their inner world.
This teaching is not presented as myth alone, but as living instruction—something meant to be felt, contemplated, and discussed.
Tonantzin Coatlicue — The Mother Earth
La Madre Tierra
Coatlicue, “She of the Serpent Skirt,” is the great Mother of Creation. She is the Earth herself—the womb from which life emerges and to which all returns. Her serpents symbolize fertility, renewal, and the eternal cycles of life, death, and rebirth.
She represents:
The Womb — the space where life and intention are formed
Grounding — the Earth that nourishes and sustains
Power — nurturing and fearsome, reminding us that creation and destruction are inseparable
Coatlicue teaches us that stability does not mean stillness; it means endurance through cycles.
Coyolxauhqui — The Rebellious Moon
La Luna y las Emociones
Coyolxauhqui, “She of the Bells on Her Cheeks,” is the Moon—radiant, reflective, and ever-changing. In the myth, she leads the stars in rebellion against her mother.
This story is not simply cosmic drama; it is allegory.
She represents:
Emotion — shifting, reflective, and powerful
Cycles — waxing and waning, light and shadow
Rebellion — feelings that turn against their source
Coyolxauhqui reminds us that emotions are beautiful and necessary, but unstable when left unguided.
Huitzilopochtli — The Warrior Sun
El Sol de la Conciencia
At the moment of crisis, Coatlicue gives birth to Huitzilopochtli—the Sun. He emerges fully formed, defending the Mother and restoring balance.
This act represents:
Conscious Will — the fire that chooses
Clarity — light that reveals truth
Protection — the inner strength that guards our core
The Sun does not destroy emotion; it masters it.
The Hidden Teaching
La Enseñanza Viva
The codex reveals a deeper truth:
The Moon represents emotion
The Mother represents intuition and grounding
The Sun represents clarity and will
Emotions are born from the Mother, but when unbalanced, they may rebel—just as Coyolxauhqui turned against Coatlicue. This does not make emotions wrong; it reminds us they require guidance.
Ancestral Wisdom in Practice
In Mexica understanding:
The Moon is changeable
The Sun is consistent
The Earth holds both
Balance is the teaching.
When emotion is guided by clarity and grounded in intuition, it becomes an ally rather than a force of disruption.
For Women, Mothers, and Families
This teaching offers medicine for modern life:
Emotions are powerful, but they are not masters
The Mother within is steady and enduring
Children—inner or outer—require guidance, not suppression
For men and women alike, the lesson is to honor emotion without surrendering authority to it.
The Ceremonial Path
To bring this teaching into daily life:
Reflect on emotions as they arise
Ground through Earth and breath
Call clarity into decision-making
Honor balance through simple ritual
These acts need not be elaborate—only sincere.
Closing Reflection
This teaching lives within us. Each day we witness the Moon rise, the Sun return, and the Earth hold us all.
The lesson is not to reject emotion, but to guide it.
The Mother remains.
Balance is the path.
